Deirdre D'Albertis, Secretary

Deirdre D'Albertis is a Professor of English at Bard College. She holds a B.A. in English from Barnard College and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. A scholar of nineteenth-century British culture, she has written extensively on the transformative effects of the industrial revolution on literature.

Over the course of her academic career, Deirdre has held administrative positions in addition to her academic responsibilities, including Associate Dean of the College, co-director of the First-Year Seminar program, and currently Director of the Center for Faculty and Curricular Development. For the past year she has served on a college commission studying the place of science in the general education curriculum at the undergraduate level. A co-founder of the Bard College Community Children's Center, she also helped to chair Bard's Focus the Nation events in 2008 as part of a nationwide teach-in on the science and policy implication of global climate change.

She and her husband, Peter Gadsby, have two children in the Rhinebeck Central School District.
